Of course the other thing I like about doing the 2D sketch to get the guide curve is that you end up with an assembled lobster without having to mate segments and just asiign the material to reflect the correct weight. I've got this down to about 3 minutes now, so I'm a happy camper. If the end segments need to be llonger ( to allow for neck flange welding etc ) then that's easy to make the segment longer anyhow. Now with your nifty trick, I created a 0.5mm slab, made a Boolean subract to split the bend, used Solid/Surface flat pattern from faces, dropped the right tickness stock on top, edited the cross section and projected the unfold and voila!įor lobster bends the first segements are always a half of the mid segments, and the mid segmenst are identical so you only need project two patterns to get the dxfs you need for the laser cut boys.

I've mastered that now and it's pretty quick to do. I really liked how the soildwookies guy did the sketch and created the guide curve for the sweep. Lnchett Double Head Sheet Metal Nibbler, Nibbler Metal Cutter with Saw Power Drill Attachment for Straight and Circle Cutting, Maximum 14 Gauge Steel. Thanks Tom, you showed me something that solved the puzzle namely 'allow sweep sharp corner'. I haven't yet split the inside radius of the cylinder parts I made to get a sheet metal profile off them yet - I gather I just use convert to sheetmetal part after I have done that ? ICS fil attached and the resul can be seen on the left in the attached snip.ĭo any of you work on welded lobster back sheet metal bends and of so, is there an easier way? Using the dimensions from the 2D sketch I was able to use cylinder feature, draft faces and mock up a bend, but that took some work. The segments ended up parallel - see attached snip with the sweep result on the right. Doing the 2D sketch was a bit of a mission, but I managed it however the IC sweep didn't give me favourable results.

I saw a nifty you-tube on how a guy did this in solidworks and thought his method may work in IC. They aren't std sizes so using Ironcad mechanical pipe app is out of the question. The most popular type of alloy steel is Chromoly steel, which has high amounts of chromium and molybdenum. I have a project that will require a number of lobster back ( segmented ) sheet metal bends on set centre-line radii and internal pipe diameter with thicknesses from 4 to 6mm. Alloy Steel is a type of steel that is alloyed with many other elements to give it benefits.Often, these types of steel have higher strengths, toughness, and wear resistance than other steels.
